Undergraduates who matriculated in 2016 and have graduated are now able to book to take the MA degree on the 23 March 2024. The MA is a complicated event and there is a lot of information available to help ensure that the day runs smoothly.

Booking for the event has now closed, but please contact Liz Pentlow if you need to change your booking.

On the Day

Ceremony

The exact timing of the ceremony will only be known a week or so before the event. Usually the Trinity Hall contingent proceeds to the Senate House late morning, although timings change every year.  If you decide to take your MA in person, we will be taking a group photograph before the line-up, and the line-up itself will be in College at least half an hour before the ceremony. Please wait until the final confirmation of times before you make definitive arrangements for the day.

On the day itself, make sure you arrive in Cambridge in good time and carefully observe the dress and gown code, otherwise you may not be allowed to proceed. If you don’t want to take the MA in person you can go through in absence and the certificate will be sent to you.

The Senate House is currently allowing graduands to bring 2 guests to the ceremony. As not everyone will bring a guest we may have spare guest tickets available, so if you would like to bring a 3rd guest, please let me know and I’ll add you to a waiting list for any spares. For those guests who can’t attend in person, there will be a live stream of the ceremony that they can watch. The link for this will be sent out the week before the event.

Refreshments

Following the ceremony, the College will serve refreshments for all MA candidates and your guests. These will be free of charge for alumni but charged at £7.50 each for guests. Again, there will be a limit of 2 guests per person unless you have been allocated a spare ceremony guest ticket.

Dinner

The first reunion dinner for 2016 undergraduates will be held in College on the evening of 23 March.

Previous MA dinners have been very popular, and we expect this one to be well-attended too. Due to the capacity of the Dining Hall it will be possible to bring one guest, but this will be on a first come-first served basis, with priority given to alumni.

There will be a seating plan for the dinner, so please indicate on the booking form who you would like to sit with. We will do our best to accommodate all requests.

Dress code for the dinner is smart, with black tie optional (no gowns).

The pre-dinner drinks are being generously sponsored by the Trinity Hall Association.

Dress code for the MA

An important part of the degree ceremony is the dress code. If you are taking your degree in person you will need to hire a gown and hood, and you can find information on where to hire these, and what to wear under them, from the University website or in the MA Invitation Pack.
