SENZA FRETTA: An unhurried gaze on Trinity Hall

Life as a Trinity Hall student can be busy and fast-paced. Early mornings on the river, lectures and supervisions throughout the day, and a full calendar of social activities make it easy to move quickly through spaces that, over time, fade into the background.
Earlier this year, a group of five Trinity Hall architecture students set out to slow down and bring College back into focus with the expert guidance of artist Luca Nostri and external Director of Studies Dr Sabrina Puddu. Moving thoughtfully and deliberately, the students explored the often overlooked details of College through a series of photographic diptychs – pairs of related images shown side by side – shaped by what they described as an ‘unhurried gaze’.
The workshop forms part of a wider programme that introduces architecture students to media that play an important role in architectural research and practice. Photography encourages students to think carefully about what they include within a frame and what they leave out, helping them make sense of the complexity of the spaces they study and design.
Each diptych was guided by a theme, and each student approached the same environment differently, whether through narrative, texture or abstraction, to create a layered and nuanced portrait of Trinity Hall.
