Michael Orr
We are sorry to announce the death of John Carmichael (Michael) Orr. The following is courtesy of his family
Michael was at Trinity Hall from 1957 – 1960, graduating in Engineering. An executive career in the City which included 12 years at S.G. Warburg and 8 as Finance Director for Grand Metropolitan plc, was cut short by illness. He underwent a liver transplant in 1989. Having recovered, he was an early pioneer of the ‘plural’ career with multiple non/executive Chair and Director roles including Chairman of the Foundation for Liver Research. A keen tennis player, he won several gold medals for both singles and doubles at the British and World Transplant Games. He was married for nearly 60 years to Janet and father to Kate and Will and grandfather to 8.
