2024 King’s Birthday Honours
Engineering Fellow Professor John Clarkson and alumnus Steven Gould (History, 1973) have been recognised in the 2024 King’s Birthday Honours list.
Professor Clarkson, an alumnus and Fellow at Trinity Hall (pictured left), received a CBE for services to engineering and design.
Prof Clarkson gained a BA in electrical sciences from the University of Cambridge in 1984 and followed this by becoming Doctor of Philosophy (electrical machines) in 1988.
He returned to the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge in 1995 following a spell in the private sector. He was appointed director of the Engineering Design Centre in 1997 and a full professor in 2004. He has been directly involved in the teaching of design at all levels of the undergraduate course and is a Fellow and alumnus of Trinity Hall. He is director of Cambridge Engineering Design Centre and co-director of Cambridge Public Health.
Steven Gould has been awarded an MBE “for services to consumers”. He is a Council Member of the General Chiropractic Council which notes on its website that he was: “… given the honour in recognition of a lifetime of protecting consumers. Prior to joining the General Chiropractic Council he had previously worked in Whitehall; for the Consumer’s Association: Which?; and he led the regulatory function of RICS – the world’s leading built environment professional body – for 14 years.”
