Tammie Bishop: “Trinity Hall is close-knit”

What first drew you to Trinity Hall, and what were your impressions when you arrived?

I liked the fact that it was a small, intimate college – yet centrally located and on the river. A quiet little haven hidden amongst bustling Uni life.

What one memory or experience best captures your time at College?

Too many to detail. But who can forget coming to college for their admissions interview…. the person before me threw up after his so I thought it couldn’t get worse than that!

What impact did Trinity Hall have on your future?

Profound and across all areas of my life.

I met my husband at Trinity Hall (on our first day during fresher’s week) and we later married in college surrounded by many of our college friends. We even named our eldest daughter Trinity after the college!

I loved the tutorial system and immersed myself in biology, continuing to work as a scientist to this day – oddly, at Trinity college (Oxford), so the name keeps cropping up in different ways…

Close-knit!

What message would you like to share with future generations of women coming to Trinity Hall?

Choose to do what you are passionate about – what really keeps you up at night. It will give you resilience when faced with set-backs, of which there will be many.

Not all careers follow a linear path. Discoveries often happen at the fringes so don’t worry about being unfashionable.

Remember that it’s all about the long game so hang in there and dare to be bold!
