Kettle’s Yard internship

An opportunity for Trinity Hall students who are interested in the museum/gallery and cultural sector to gain valuable work experience.

One of the challenges for those seeking a career in the museum/gallery world is workplace experience. Thanks to a donation from a Trinity Hall alumnus, we are partnering with Kettle’s Yard to provide two summer internships this year to assist with the exhibitions at Kettle’s Yard.

About the internships

You would gain valuable experience of working with a renowned collection and gallery, supporting collections work and exhibitions and building real-world experience on projects with public-facing outcomes. In addition, these placements offer an opportunity to contribute to the growing student art collection at Trinity Hall, creating a legacy of art for public and student spaces at the College.

The two summer internships this year will support the following areas:

  • Placement 1: Supporting the permanent collection in the Kettle’s Yard house. Working behind the scenes of a world-renowned collection to gain practical experience of core curatorial processes and produce public-facing content based on this work.
  • Placement 2: Supporting the Programme team with the upcoming temporary exhibitions. Working with curators on upcoming temporary exhibitions. Learning what practically happens in preparing public exhibitions, including considerations for the care and display of artworks, interpretation and public engagement.
  • Joint – both placements: Researching online information about artists with the aim of contributing to the developing student art collection at Trinity Hall that will be displayed in student rooms and communal spaces. Learning from the process and building on the acquisitions made in 2025, the successful applicants will have the opportunity to suggest artworks for purchase within a specified budget and will write a proposal for the Trinity Hall Arts Advisory Group as part of their placement.

There will also be opportunities to network, shadow and work alongside different members of Kettle’s Yard staff. This experience could transform your career potential if you are interested in working in this sector, as well as provide the opportunity to understand the different roles in a creative environment and the career paths available.

Who should apply

We are looking for Trinity Hall students in any subject with a passion for art and an interest in learning how museums and galleries operate. Students will be shortlisted based on an application outlining why they are interested in this internship, what skills they would bring and what they would hope to gain from the experience. Previous experience in a museum or gallery is not required.  Kettle’s Yard is committed to encouraging equality, diversity and inclusion within the workplace.

Internship details

Internships would run for a minimum of 7 weeks up to a maximum of 10 weeks between July and September 2025. The length of the placement within these parameters will be agreed with the successful applicant based on their availability, with flexibility to accommodate short periods of holiday if required.

You will receive an allowance of £400 per week to cover living costs. Current students will be eligible for accommodation in College at the subsidised rate.

Upon completion of the internship, the successful applicants will also be required to produce a report on their experience for the donor.
