The Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot aims to foster the study of international commercial law and arbitration, and provide a practical training to students for resolving international business disputes.
This year some 390 teams (made up of more than 2,500 students) took part, with Cambridge emerging runners-up in the Eric E Bergsten Award.
Professor Campbell McLachlan KC, Staff Fellow at Trinity Hall and a Professor of International Dispute Resolution, said: “I am so delighted at the stellar success of the Cambridge Vis team, which included Trinity Hall’s own Sam Moore in the four-member team. The outcome is a tribute to their own abilities and dedication and to the hard work and support of our excellent postgraduate student coaches.
“It is a pleasure to see Cambridge re-entering the competition this year and then reaching the top table at the world’s premier international arbitration moot.”
Sam, who studies law at Trinity Hall and is from Edinburgh, Scotland, added: “It was watching mooting finals on YouTube that convinced me to study law at university, so having the opportunity to compete in such a prestigious competition felt like a real full-circle moment.
“It was an honour to represent Cambridge, progress through a fierce competition, and meet inspiring students from across the world.”
The team would like to acknowledge with gratitude the sponsorship of Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer, without which the team would not have been able to compete.
