Trinity Hall’s undergraduate and postgraduate Green and Ethics Officers worked with staff across the College, including the gardening, housekeeeping, catering and maintenance teams, to provide evidence of the College’s ongoing dedication to sustainable practices. Jeffrey Opreij (Postgraduate Green and Ethical Affairs Officer), Alex Younge (current undergraduate Green and Ethics Officer) and May Brown (last year’s undergraduate Green and Ethics Officer) led this year’s application.
“The judges recognised and awarded our efforts with Platinum this year. This is a reflection of the efforts of students and staff in recent years, and we are committed to becoming more sustainable so we can maintain this very high standard”, said Jeffrey.
Jeffrey credits meaningful and continued efforts across the College at all levels for helping secure the Platinum award: “Part of the reason we got Platinum this year was the newly created Sustainability Policy, which showcases Trinity Hall’s ongoing commitment to becoming more sustainable. Other activities that contributed were the green events organised by the MCR and JCR, such as the litter pick during Green Week, and this year’s Giving Day supporting sustainability initiatives such as a new solar array.”
The announcement from the Environmental Sustainability Team at the University of Cambridge noted: “This is a fantastic accomplishment, and we are proud of your commitment to sustainability.”
The awards will be presented on Thursday 19 June at a special event to celebrate the best in sustainability across the University of Cambridge.
