Provenance:Col. John Francis Haswell (1864 – post 1933) of Penrith; Miss B. Haswell, daughter of Col. Haswell; her gift to George Edward Larman, (1895 – 1961) by 1952 (‘This and subsequent vols. entitled Haswell MSS consist of papers compiled and left by Col. John Francis Haswell M.C. C.J. etc of the Friarage Penrith in the county of Cumberland, a noted antiquary of the county. The papers were most kindly and generously given to me by his daughter Miss B. Haswell. In grateful remembrance of so generous a gift I have caused the aforesaid papers to be preserved in this form and manner, hoping that at some future time they may be of use to someone interested in the county of Cumberland. Notes:A number of folios are considerably smaller than the average size given in the physical description. Much of the paper is poor quality ‘butchers’ paper, occasionally repaired with sticky tape. Fols. 157r and 180v are typescript. Larman was a student at Trinity Hall 1914 – 1918. Haswell edited and published a series of parish registers from Cumberland.
