The Trinity Hall Medical and Veterinary Society are delighted to welcome you to their Alumni Dinner on Saturday 4 May 2024. The dinner is open to all who studied Medicine or Veterinary Medicine (Clinical, Pre-Clinical, or both) and you are warmly invited to bring a guest. It will provide a wonderful opportunity for alumni to meet with current students.

The speaker will be Professor Martin Burton, a professor of Otolaryngology and ENT surgeon, who has practised in the NHS for 30 years as well as acting as the Director of Cochrane UK. He is a truly fascinating individual, who has done incredible work. It promises to be an engaging and inspiring evening.

Programme

18:00-18:30 Drinks reception in the Terrace Room

18:30-19:25 Talk by Professor Martin Burton in the Lecture Theatre

19:30-22:00 Dinner in the Graham Storey Room

Speaker

Professor Martin Burton

Martin Burton has been Master of Sidney Sussex College since September 2023. He moved back to Cambridge from Oxford where he was Director of Cochrane UK, the unit responsible for supporting the activities Cochrane contributors in the UK and Ireland. He was also Professor of Otolaryngology in the Nuffield Department of Surgery at the University of Oxford, an Honorary Consultant Otolaryngologist at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, based at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, and Fellow in Clinical Medicine at Balliol College.

He has now retired from clinical practice, but his interests were primarily otological – hearing loss, tinnitus, balance disorders and middle ear and mastoid surgery. He has always been interested in the application of evidence-based practice across all areas of health and social care, the promotion of public understanding of health research, and understanding how patients and health professionals can – together – handle uncertainty. His research focused on developing suites of high-quality systematic reviews, on those prioritised clinical topics in otolaryngology of most importance to patients and practitioners.

Booking and cost

The cost is £75 per person, or £60 for those who matriculated in 2014 or later. The price includes a drinks reception, and three-course meal served with wine (non-alcoholic options available). You are warmly invited to bring a guest.
