Volunteering with Fund Your Wild
The following report was written by Faye Wright.
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Trinity Hall for supporting my recent volunteer placement with Fund Your Wild Cambridge, a local environmental charity. This experience has been both personally enriching and professionally valuable, providing me with the opportunity to develop practical skills while contributing meaningfully to the charity’s development.
Over the course of my volunteer placement, I undertook a variety of responsibilities in collaboration with the charity’s directors:
- I engaged in regular meetings with the charity’s directors to understand their goals, operational needs, and vision for growth. These sessions helped shape the core messaging and infrastructure of the projects I contributed to.
- I led the design and creation of the charity’s new website, working closely with the team to gather text, images, and structural feedback. This was an iterative process involving continuous updates and refinements in response to discussions and direction from the charity leads.
- I created a comprehensive funding document outlining available opportunities for the charity, including general funding and specific options for purchasing a vehicle. This document will serve as a key resource in the charity’s fundraising efforts. Additionally, I designed a reusable template to streamline future funding applications and contributed all newly identified funders to the charity’s central funding spreadsheet.
- To enhance the charity’s outreach, I created several flyers for both general promotion and individual projects, incorporating the charity’s branding and logo throughout.
I am very grateful to Trinity Hall for providing me with the financial support to pursue this opportunity. It has enabled me to support a meaningful cause while developing skills in web design, grant writing, communication, and non-profit operation. These skills will serve me well in future professional and academic pursuits. My engagement with Fund Your Wild Cambridge will not end with this project. I am continuing to volunteer with the team, with the intention of transitioning into a paid role should funding be secured. This recognition reflects the value of the work I have contributed thus far and will allow me to remain involved in a more sustainable capacity.
