I loved Trinity Hall because it is a smaller college which meant that it is very friendly and inclusive. Everyone got involved with everything – I must have played at least five sports at one time or another – and I even convinced the Master to take part in one of our May Week Shows!
Currently, I work in insurance-linked securities for Swiss Re, which essentially involves establishing financial products to transfer insurance risk to the capital markets. My degree is very useful for a number of aspects, from reviewing legal documentation for logical flaws to comprehension of various financial and mathematical concepts. In particular though, it really has helped me with understanding and quantifying probabilistically the risk of such investments. For example, I might need to know the expected financial impact of two earthquakes causing losses to a particular insurance portfolio. In order to do this, I would create a stochastic model which would assess the probability of such catastrophes and calculate the subsequent impairment.
