Follow up to statement of clarification re Dr Peter Hutchinson

Dr Peter Hutchinson has resigned from his post as Emeritus Fellow of Trinity Hall, Cambridge with immediate effect. The College has accepted his resignation.

We have listened carefully to concerns raised about how the situation with Dr Hutchinson was handled procedurally and how decisions made by the Governing Body were communicated.

We are unwavering in our commitment to provide an environment at the College in which everyone is treated with dignity and respect. The College will now undertake a governance review of its decision-making processes. The aim of this review will be to consider necessary improvements to the executive processes of the College, including matters of transparency and representation. The College will also consider a thorough external review examining how any claims of harassment are reported and handled.

The safety and welfare of everyone at Trinity Hall is, and has always been, of paramount importance. Any reported instance of harassment, whether past or current, will continue to be taken very seriously and appropriate action will be taken.

A clarificatory summary of the sequence of events which preceded Dr Hutchinson’s resignation was published on 24 October 2019.

As Master of Trinity Hall, I take ultimate responsibility for the welfare of all staff and students and once again welcome you to make contact with me directly should you wish to discuss this issue.
