Undergraduates who matriculated in 2012 and graduated more than two years ago are now able to register to take the MA degree on the 23 March 2019. The MA is a complicated event and there is a lot of information available to help ensure that the day runs smoothly.

On the Day

Ceremony

The exact timing of the ceremony will only be known the week before the event, but the Trinity Hall contingent usually proceeds to the Senate House around 1.00pm. If you decide to take your MA in person, we will be taking a group photograph before the line-up, and the line-up itself will be in College at least half an hour before the ceremony, although the timings can change by as much as an hour so please wait until the final confirmation before you make definitive arrangements for the day.

On the day itself, make sure you arrive in Cambridge in good time and carefully observe the dress and gown code, otherwise you may not be allowed to proceed. If you don’t want to take the MA in person you can go through in absence and the certificate will be sent to you the following week.

Guest tickets for the Senate House will be in named envelopes for you to collect from the Porters’ Lodge. The limit has been reduced to 2 guests per MA graduand (following a recent fire and safety survey at the Senate House). However, any spare tickets can be reallocated, so please get in touch if you would like to bring more than 2 guests. As long as our maximum allowance is not exceeded, extra requests will be met.

Tea and cake

Following the ceremony, the College will serve tea and cake for you and your guests.
There will be no cost for alumni to attend the refreshments, and guests will be charged £6.50 each.

Dinner

There will also be a Reunion dinner in Trinity Hall on the evening of 23 March for the 2012 year group.
Previous MA dinners have been very popular, and we expect this one to be well-attended too. Space in the Dining Hall, as I’m sure you remember, is rather restricted, so it will be possible to bring one guest, but this will be on a first come-first served basis, with priority given to alumni.
There will be a seating plan for the dinner, so please indicate on the booking form who you would like to sit with. We will do our best to accommodate all requests.
The pre-dinner drinks are being generously sponsored by the Trinity Hall Association.
Dress code for the dinner is black tie/suit (no gowns).

Dress code

An important part of the degree ceremony is the dress code. If you are taking your degree in person you will need to hire a gown and hood, and you can find information on where to hire these, and what to wear under them, from the University website.

Accommodation

Accommodation will be available for the Saturday night. This will be in –

  • single student rooms on Central Site (£42 bed & breakfast)
  • single ensuite rooms at Wychfield (£48 room only | £58 bed & breakfast)
  • double ensuite rooms at WYNG Gardens on Thompson’s Lane (prices ranging from £78-£128).

If you wish to stay overnight, please choose your preferred option when booking.

Breakfast for both Wychfield and WYNG Gardens guests will be served on Central Site.

Photography

We like to take photographs at our alumni events to use in our digital and print communications. If you do not wish to have your photo taken, please let us know in advance or on the day.

Cancellations

We are able to offer refunds for bookings cancelled five working days or more before an event. Requests for late refunds will be considered on an individual basis and refunds will be issued at the discretion of the Alumni & Development Office. We cannot accept responsibility if weather or disruption to travel prevents you from attending.
