Christopher Brown’s 24 Preludes and Fugues for solo piano is a magnum opus of some 2.5 hours duration which has occupied the composer on and off for the last decade. Taking a cue from Elgar’s Enigma Variations, each Prelude and Fugue is dedicated to and depicts in a musical way the composer’s close friends and family, all the while imbued with the two signature themes of Bach and Shostakovitch, whose own Well-Tempered Clavier and 24 Preludes and Fugues provided musical inspiration.

Following the recent World Première at the Alwyn Music Festival, we are delighted to welcome the acclaimed concert pianist, Nathan Williamson, who will perform sections of the work in the Senior Combination Room, Trinity Hall on Saturday 6 November.

Composer and pianist will delve into this fascinating work in a pre-concert discussion.
