Dr Sasha Turchyn
Dr Sasha Turchyn, from Washington DC, is Trinity Hall’s Graduate Tutor and Director of Studies in Physical Natural Sciences.
Initially, she was attracted to the College because the Fellowship is young, dynamic and representative of a diverse spread of scientific disciplines, although at the time she joined there were no other female science fellows. Her primary research interests involve understanding how the chemistry of the ocean evolves over time and the role ocean chemistry plays in the carbon cycle. She feels the hardest part of her job is in admissions and having to choose among so many hard-working applicants. She has learnt to fight the first fires first, and strives to master the art of balancing work and family life. She is particularly thankful that her three daughters are very forgiving children, though at their primary school she has noticed old stereotyping of maths and sciences being only boys’ subjects!
