Dr Daniel Tyler

The role of the Vice-Master is to deputise when the Master is absent, to chair certain College committees, and to exercise a leadership role amongst the Fellows.

Dr Tyler is Vice-Master, Fellow and College Teaching Officer in English at Trinity Hall, and a Director of Studies in English (Prelim and Part I).

Most of Dr Tyler’s research focuses on nineteenth-century literature, with a particular interest in the way that matters of form, style and technique shape meaning. Dr Tyler has edited several essay collections, including Dickens’s Style (2013), Poetry in the Making: Creativity and Composition in Victorian Poetic Drafts (2021), The Cambridge Companion to Prose (2021), and On Style in Victorian Fiction (2021). He has edited Dickens’s The Uncommercial Traveller and is working on editions of Bleak House (for Oxford University Press) and Great Expectations (for Norton).
