The JCR (or Junior Combination Room) functions like a student union within the College. Each year undergraduates elect a President and a number of other officers who have responsibility for areas such as access, student welfare and entertainment. Every Trinity Hall undergraduate is automatically a member of the JCR and gains access to the social, sporting and entertainment opportunities provided within the College. Each group has representation on the College’s Governing Body and on various Committees, ensuring consultation and communication on important student issues. The JCR has its own common room where meetings may be held or members can just relax, read, play pool or watch TV.
The MCR stands for Middle Combination Room, which is both the name of a room in College devoted solely for the use of graduate students and their guests, as well as the name of the society to which all graduate students are entitled to membership.
The MCR is the focal point of the graduate community of Trinity Hall. The MCR Committee orchestrates a wide range of events and works hard to create an environment offering daily newspapers, multi-channel television, refreshments and more in addition to the numerous entertainment events coordinated by the 'Ents team'. At its busiest, the facility regularly plays host to lunchtime and evening banter, and is a forum for political expression at MCR Committee Meetings.
