Trinity Hall Chapel Choir release new CD
5 May 2017
Trinity Hall Chapel Choir marked the launch of their latest CD last night (4 May) with a celebratory Evensong in Chapel.
The recording features music by the great Restoration composer, Henry Purcell (1659-95). Entitled The English Orpheus (a name by which Purcell became known in London’s musical society in the seventeenth century), the disc offers a wonderfully varied survey of his compositional output from the early years of his tenure at Westminster Abbey and the Chapel Royal under the patronage of Charles II and James II, right through until his untimely death, just months after the Funeral of Queen Mary.
Recorded in the Chapel of Jesus College, Cambridge, the choir performed alongside the soloists, string-players and trumpeters of the College’s superb professional Ensemble-In-Residence ‘Orpheus Britannicus’. Former Organ Scholar, Sebastian Gillot (2012) is also featured as soloist in a brilliant performance of Purcell’s Suite in G minor for solo harpsichord on the College’s fine instrument by Andrew Garlick.
This is the second release from the Choir and the fifth from Trinity Hall's Director of Music Andrew Arthur. See the full collection or place an order.
