Andrew Marr opens new buildings for his old College.

Trinity Hall has just completed its most ambitious building project to date. The new accommodation at its Wychfield site was officially opened on Saturday 14 July by BBC correspondent Andrew Marr, who read English at Trinity Hall from 1977 to 1980.

Hall Man knighted in Queen's Birthday honours

Robert Margetts read Natural Sciences and Chemical Engineering at Trinity Hall. He is currently Chairman of Legal & General, Chairman of The BOC Group, and Chairman of the Natural Environment Research Council. He was appointed CBE in 1996 and was appointed Knight Bachelor in the 2006 Queen’s Birthday honours for services to Science and to Business.

New Fundraising Campaign launched

A new fundraising campaign, Milestones to the Future, was launched on 17 June 2006 at the Benefactors’ Brunch. The campaign has two aims: firstly to increase the College’s Endowment to a figure of more than £100million, and secondly to regenerate the College’s older buildings in a sensitive manner. Speaking at the Campaign launch, the Bursar, Paul ffolkes Davis, said “The support we are now asking our alumni and all our friends and supporters for is to put the College beyond harm and to guarantee that vital independence that successive governments have sought to drain away.”

Oscar for Rachel Weisz

Rachel Weisz (Trinity Hall, 1988) won the 2006 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Constant Gardner. This was in addition to being awarded the 2006 Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress and the 2006 Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role.
