John Collier (21/11/1933-18/06/2016)
18 June 2016
The College is very sorry to announce the death of Mr John Collier, MA, LLB, known affectionately as ‘JC’ to generations of Trinity Hall men and women, especially those who studied Law under him. John was elected a Fellow in 1966, transferring from Emmanuel, and served in a variety of College offices, including Vice-Master, until his retirement in 2001.
He was one of a small number of Cambridge law dons who have left an indelible impression on the legal profession in this country, and more than that, on the overwhelming majority of young people with whom he became involved, whether Trinity Hall lawyers or others. He was a devoted and successful supervisor and tutor in his own inimitable style; many a former pupil owes him a lifelong debt. There will be a quiet family funeral, with a memorial service to be held in the autumn, details of which will be announced in due course. In the meantime, our sympathies are with his family and many friends.
