In July 2016, Dr Stephen Pax Leonard (former Trinity Hall Research Fellow) will be part of a five strong ‘Spitsbergen Retraced’ team travelling high into the Arctic Circle to retrace the route of a pioneering exploration of the area 93 years ago.
Dr Leonard will be the expedition diarist, documenting the team’s journey for historical comparison. The team will also collect scientific data to assess changes in the environment and the impact of climate change.
Whilst a Trinity Hall Research Fellow, Dr Leonard lived in north-west Greenland for a year to document the language and oral traditions of Inuit hunters living on the edge of the Greenland Ice Sheet - watch Living with the Inugguit.
