Trinity Hall Chapel Choir launch their debut CD

Debut CD 'Come Down, O Love Divine'
The disc was recorded in two acoustically stunning basilicas in Brittany during the Choir’s most recent tour, directed by Andrew Arthur; it features a wide repertoire of highly attractive choral and organ music ranging from medieval plainchant to the present day, including works by Cavazzoni, Tallis, Buxtehude, Bach, Quesnel (TH 1995), Fauré, Duruflé, Tournemire, Brahms, Bruckner, Ives and Arthur (Director of Music, TH), amongst which are included some première recordings.
In addition to their accompanying of the choir, the organ scholars, Charlie Hubbard and Sebastian Gillot, are heard as soloists on the disc playing on two exceptionally fine instruments.

Over a number of years, Trinity Hall has nurtured a choral exchange programme between the College’s Chapel Choir and the Académie de Musique et d’Arts Sacrés, a music school for secondary-school pupils based in the commune of Sainte-Anne d’Auray in Southern Brittany. The relationship, which has been facilitated by Andrew Arthur (Fellow and Director of Music at Trinity Hall) and Richard Quesnel (Director of the Ensemble Vocal at the Académie and former Trinity Hall Organ Scholar (1995)), has resulted in a number of collaborative projects between the two choirs both in Brittany and here in Cambridge. In recent years, the chapel choir have toured to Brittany, performing concerts in the region as well as joining the French choir to sing High Mass in the Basilica built on the famous Pilgrimage site at Ste-Anne d’Auray. This summer, the choir embarked on their most ambitious project yet – the making of its inaugural CD recording whilst on tour in France. Continue reading full report
