Mark Webber visits Trinity Hall
28 June 2014
A pretty wet looking Mark Webber and the university cycling team stop for a photograph before invading the Master's Lodge for tea. Mark arrived early for his 'Meet the Boss' dinner having expressed a wish to go punting and then for a bike ride with students.
The punt ride started off in brilliant sunshine, but soon found itself in monsoon like conditions. Fortunately Mark is at the opposite end of fitting a Prima Donna's profile and didn't seem to mind a bit, even if the punt ride to Grantchester arrived well over an hour late.
Then just to ensure a thorough test of his spirit, the cycle ride received a good June dousing from the heavens. Hero of the day was Dr Claire Daunton who seemed undaunted with a guest list of eight soaked to the skin, bare footed and bare legged, cyclists in her dining room.
Mark spent the day with over 20 Trinity Hall students (and three fellows come dinner) divided into small groups who escorted him for the various events through the day. Feedback from Mark and the students was fortunately equally bubbly. Perhaps these activities should be renamed 'Meet the students', both titles seem apt!
Look out for more from Professor Tony Purnell in the next issue of Front Court, out in a few weeks.
