Dr Bill Grundy 1919-2014
29 April 2014
It is with great sadness that Trinity Hall announces the death of Emeritus Fellow, Dr Bill Grundy (1st November 1919 - 26th April 2014)
Alumnus (TH 1946), Fellow 1962 - 1987, Vice-Master 1974-78, Emeritus Fellow
David Rubenstein writes:
"Bill came to Trinity Hall before time began, to study chemistry and, later, medical sciences. His intellectual talent was spotted early and he was soon guided towards a scientific academic career. His great love, however, was teaching which continued with wonderful success until his 81st year. He loved his students and they loved and respected him in return. Most will never forget the important clinical information he transferred, but even those who do will never forget that slow, lyrical Blackburn drawl with its delayed accent on the vowels. Above all, he will be remembered with the greatest affection.
Bill was a big man in all respects: a lovely, wise, loyal friend - a little bit of us all died yesterday."
The funeral will be for family only, but if you would like to send in a message to be passed to his children, please contact the Master's PA on firstname.lastname@example.org
Thank you to those who have sent messages; the family are very appreciative of the support they have received and have been touched by the stories of Bill's humour and kindness. Some people have asked if there would be a service, but Bill’s family feel that he would not have wanted a memorial.
