Obituary of Lady Runcie (wife of Robert Runcie (TH1948)) on BBC Radio 4's The Last Word

2 February 2012

We are sorry to announce the death of Rosalind Runice, wife of the former Archbishop of Canterbury who has died aged 79.

Rosalind Runcie was the outspoken wife of the Archbishop of Canterbury Robert Runcie. Lady Runcie was a concert pianist and teacher – determined to have her own life away from her duties as Archbishop’s wife. Their relationship was the subject of much tabloid gossip and insinuation, but these stories were unfounded and the happy marriage lasted from 1957 until Robert’s death in 2000.

Hear more on BBC Radio 4's The Last Word, which speaks to Rosalind’s son James Runcie and to her friend, the wife of the Bishop of London, Caroline Chartres: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b019h3pp

Born 23 January 1932 and died 12 January 2012.
