Honorary Fellow wins Elmer A. Sperry Award

Professor Antony Jameson, (TH 1955 & Honorary Fellow 1990) has been awarded The Elmer A. Sperry Award 2006 for Advancing the Art of Transportation. Professor Jameson is responsible for a large number of algorithms and computer software that has been used in the design of many aircraft.

The Elmer A. Sperry Award is made in recognition of "a distinguished engineering contribution which, through application, proved in actual service, has advanced the art of transportation whether by land, sea, or air." The citation notes that the award was made in recognition of Professor Jameson's "seminal and continuing contributions to the modern design of aircraft through his numerous algorithmic innovations and through the development of the FLO, SYN, and AIRPLANE series of computational fluid dynamic codes."

Professor Jameson is a Fellow of the Royal Society, and he currently holds the Thomas V. Jones Professorship of Engineering at Stanford University, California.
