Honorary Doctorate for Master

4 September 2006

The Master of Trinity Hall, Martin Daunton, was honoured by UCL with a Doctor of Literature (honoris causa).

Their press release said:

"Professor Daunton is a leading historian of modern Britain, and is credited with having bridged the divide between economics and history in his writing and teaching. At Cambridge he is Professor of Economic History, Master of Trinity Hall and was formerly the Chairman of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Alongside his academic work he has taken on roles such as Consultant Editor of the 'Dictionary of National Biography', Editor of one of the volumes of the 'Cambridge Urban History of Britain', and he is the current President of the Royal Historical Society. Prior to his departure for Cambridge, he spent 18 years at UCL History, latterly as Astor Professor of British History."

Other honorary degrees awarded in the same ceremony went to: Mr Andrew Davies (Doctor of Literature), Mr Antony Gormley OBE (Doctor of Science), Professor Arthur Kwok-Cheung Li (Doctor of Science (Medicine)), Professor Njabula Ndebele (Doctor of Literature), Professor Anne Treisman (Doctor of Science), and The Right Honourable Lord Young of Graffham (Doctor of Laws).
