Trinity Hall Fellow invited to give Rosenthal Lectures at Yale

21 March 2007

Dr James Montgomery (Fellow and Graduate Tutor at Trinity Hall, University Reader in Classical Arabic) has been invited to give the Rosenthal Lectures at Yale University in January 2008.

He has been asked to lecture on the subject(s) of Philosophy and Literature, concepts which, he will argue, are, despite (but largely because of) their scholarly currency, impoverished descriptions of the intellectual activities of ninth and tenth century Iraq. He is only the second Arabist to have been invited to deliver these lectures which commemorate the achievements and scholarship of Professor Franz Rosenthal, the renowned and distinguished Semiticist who taught at Yale for many decades.
