Director of Studies in charge of admissions in engineering in Trinity Hall, and Reader in Structural Mechanics in the University; currently Chairman of the Engineering Department's Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering Teaching Committee.
In Trinity Hall, Simon Guest supervises a wide range of topics including Structures and Mechanics in all parts of the Engineering Tripos; in the Engineering Department he lectures on Structural Mechanics in both the first and second year of the course.
Simon Guest's research centres on devices and systems that lie at the borderline between being structures and mechanisms. There are many examples, ranging in scale from large deployable structures that provide a foldable roof for a stadium, to the nanometer scale outer protein coat of a virus, that unfolds to allow the delivery of an RNA or DNA payload. More detail can be found on his Department of Engineering home page.
