An introduction to Trinity Hall

Founded in 1350 by Bishop Bateman of Norwich for the training of priests and lawyers after the ravages of the Black Death, Trinity Hall is one of Cambridge’s oldest and prettiest colleges, exuding an atmosphere of intimacy, tradition and social spirit.

Nestled among Clare, Gonville and Caius and Trinity Colleges, it lies discreetly beside the River Cam in the centre of Cambridge insulated against the bustle of the town.

Trinity Hall, with its gardens, its architecture and its riverside position, hidden between its larger neighbours, is one of the most attractive Colleges in Cambridge. Of course we are prejudiced, but Henry James went even further:

“If I were called upon to mention the prettiest corner of the world, I should draw a thoughtful sigh and point the way to the gardens of Trinity Hall.”
